Father’s Day is the day our nation sets aside to honor & remember our fathers. Like most Americans, I am sure you are searching for the perfect gift or card to express your feelings of honor and gratitude.
What does the perfect gift look like to you? Is it bought with silver or gold? Or is it something that money cannot buy?
In Proverbs 10:1 “A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.”
The truth is that what any father wants from their son/daughter, what makes him the happiest, is not something purchased with silver or gold, but who their son/daughter is becoming or has become. If I behave foolishly even though I love my father and present him expensive gifts, I will cause him grief. But, if I be a wise son/daughter with godly character, then my father will be happy regardless of what material gift I offer. And he will not only be happy on Father’s Day; it will make his life complete!
What does the Bible say about Fathers on Father’s Day?
1. Obeying and showing respect have benefits!
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and your mother,' which is the first commandment with promise: 'that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth'" (Ephesians 6:1-3).
2. Take constructive correction positively—because it can be a sign your dad loves you.
"My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction; for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights" (Proverbs 3:11-12).
3. Make your dad glad by doing right and making wise choices.
"The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, and he who begets a wise child will delight in him" (Proverbs 23:24).
